Travelling to Sweden by Motorhome via the Bridge
If you are travelling to Sweden with a motorhome or caravan, the Øresund Bridge is the most direct and practical crossing. On this page, you can immediately see what the toll costs for your vehicle and how to reach the other side without hassle and at the best price.
Why travel to Sweden with a motorhome or caravan via the Øresund Bridge?
For many travellers, the Øresund Bridge is the most logical and simple way to reach Sweden. You drive without interruption from Denmark to Malmö and the route feels just as natural as a normal motorway. You do not have to take waiting times for smaller ferries into account and you have no stress about manoeuvring with a long combination.
Important for first-time travellers:
- The route is wide and suitable for all heights and lengths.
- Simply follow the E20 towards Malmö.
- Both the tunnel and bridge are designed for lorries, coaches and motorhomes.
If you want to stop during your journey, Copenhagen is an ideal stopover before you drive onto the bridge.
Is the Øresund Bridge suitable for motorhomes and caravans?
Yes. The Øresund Bridge is designed for all vehicle types, including high motorhomes and long caravans.
Useful reassurance for travellers:
- Maximum height: approximately 4.5 metres.
- Suitable for vehicles up to lorry size.
- Lanes are spacious and clear. Motorhomes and caravans follow the same route as cars.
The price is determined by the total length of your combination. Anything longer than 6 metres falls into a higher rate category. If you want to know exactly what your crossing costs, use the toll calculator on the prices page.
How does the crossing work with a motorhome or caravan?
1. Approach via the E20 towards Malmö: You drive via the E20 in Denmark and follow the signs for Malmö. Everything is clearly signposted. You do not need to choose separate lanes for motorhomes or caravans yet.
2. Enter the Drogden Tunnel: The crossing begins with the undersea Drogden Tunnel. This tunnel is wide, well-lit and feels like a normal motorway. There are no height checks or special instructions for large vehicles.
3. Across Peberholm towards the bridge: After the tunnel, you emerge onto the artificial island of Peberholm. Here you naturally drive on towards the bridge. There are no turn-offs and the route is self-explanatory.
4. Drive onto the Øresund Bridge: From Peberholm you go directly onto the Øresund Bridge. The bridge is almost 8 kilometres long and fully suitable for large vehicles. In strong winds, speed advisories are shown via matrix signs.
What is important:
- Motorhomes and caravans are always allowed to cross.
- The bridge almost never closes for high vehicles.
- Advisory speeds are clearly displayed.
5. Reach toll booths and pay: At the end of the bridge, you reach the toll booths. This is the only point where you need to stop.

The lanes work as follows:
- Green car symbol: pre-paid ticket or number plate recognition.
- Blue card symbol: debit or credit card.
- Blue card and cash: cash or assistance from staff.
- Green lorry lanes: not intended for motorhomes or caravans.
You can pay with:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Pre-bought tickets via number plate
After payment, you drive directly into Sweden. Malmö is just a few minutes away.
Wind and safety with motorhome or caravan
Motorhomes and caravans are more sensitive to crosswinds. The Øresund Bridge is constantly monitored and advisory speeds are indicated via matrix signs.
Important to know:
- Closure of the bridge occurs very rarely.
- Advisories appear automatically above the road.
- Simply follow the indicated speed.
