Weather conditions and wind warnings

Wind and visibility are the main factors influencing traffic. The Øresundsbron may set temporary speed restrictions or close the bridge when it becomes truly unsafe.

Situations where measures are taken:

• Storms or heavy wind gusts
• Ice on the bridge
• Very poor visibility
• Extreme winter weather

Roadworks and disruptions

The connection consists of a tunnel, an artificial island, and the bridge itself. Regular maintenance is necessary to keep everything safe. During roadworks, the following may occur:

• One lane closed
• Temporarily lower speed limits
• Short-term closures
• Contraflow lanes in the tunnel indicated by double dotted lines

For every planned work, it is indicated:

• Where the disruption takes place
• How long it will last
• Which measures apply to traffic

Train traffic across the Oresund Bridge

Trains across the Oresund Bridge are operated by Skånetrafiken. When there are disruptions, delays, or cancellations, this is also stated on the traffic information page.

Travelers by train are advised to check current travel information via Skånetrafiken.

Border controls

The Swedish police frequently carry out border controls at the crossing from Denmark to Sweden. Sometimes there are also checks toward Denmark. Travelers must be able to identify themselves. Therefore, always remember:

Safety on the Oresund Bridge

Safety is one of the highest priorities. The entire connection is continuously monitored with cameras and sensors. The traffic center sees everything in real-time and can intervene immediately when necessary.

What to do in case of a breakdown or accident

If an accident happens on the bridge: Stop in the emergency lane on the right, switch on your hazard lights, and wear a yellow high-visibility vest. Then stand 50 meters before your vehicle (upstream) in a safe place and use emergency stairs if you encounter them. Then call the traffic center or emergency services.

If an accident happens in the tunnel: Stop as far to the right as possible and immediately switch on your hazard lights. Always wear a safety vest and provide first aid when necessary. Then go to the nearest emergency phone or call 112. In case of fire, use the emergency exits or stairs. Stay in contact with the emergency services via the emergency phone until help arrives. In the tunnel, there are emergency phones every 88 meters that connect you directly to the emergency services.

Speed limits

The speed is adjusted according to conditions.

• 110 km/h (approx. 68 mph) on the bridge and Peberholm
• 90 km/h (approx. 56 mph) in the tunnel
• 30 km/h (approx. 18 mph) at the toll station

Note: The bridge is equipped with multiple speed cameras and matrix signs. Speeding results in delays and fines.

Toll station and speed bumps

On the Danish side of the toll stations, there are dynamic speed bumps. These activate when vehicles enter too fast. The intention is that the system can scan license plates properly and staff can work safely. This system has reduced the number of speeding violations by 95 percent.

Useful information for the road

• Water leakage in the tunnel: Small water leaks are normal and no cause for concern. This is due to the construction of the tunnel.
• AED available: There is a defibrillator on both sides of the toll station. All employees are trained to use it.
• The bridge is basically always open: Only in extreme conditions or incidents may the Oresund Bridge close. This happens rarely and is always communicated immediately.
